"Before you finish eating breakfast this morning, you've depended on more than half the world."
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Our culture, our upbringing and life experiences, and, of course, our Enneagram type, shape the way we view our close relationships and the patterns that we form to navigate them. At one end of the spectrum is dependence, or believing your happiness depends on another person or relationship; at the other end is independence - being able to take care of yourself and not be needy of others. Interdependence is the common ground between these two ends.
Our challenge is to develop the skills to be interdependent with those we care most about. Asking for help, being vulnerable, receiving love, talking about difficult subjects . . . finding a middle ground can be elusive.
Please join us as we explore where we fall in this spectrum, how our Enneagram type contributes to that, barriers to achieving the skills of interdependence, and the rewards that lie there.
